What is rebounding?
Rebounding is a type of aerobic exercise that’s performed while jumping on a mini trampoline.
It was first endorsed by NASA when they used it in the training of their astronauts to build muscle before and after their trips to space as they found this was the fastest way with the lowest injury rate to get their muscle strength back up after losing lots of muscle mass while in space.
This type of exercise uses acceleration and deceleration together with gravity at the same time. This causes to stimulate every cell in your body which works the entire body the whole time and not just a certain area at once.
While it is having the aerobic benefits, it also counts as strength training when using body weight or extra added weights.
Its low impact which means that when doing it correctly, there is no strain on the joints like in the case of running as the impact is absorbed by the mat when you press down on it. The harder you push, the more intense the workout as you are working against gravity.
Rebounding is also such a versatile exercise as any age from toddlers to the elderly can use it while just adjusting the exercise to your fitness level and skills.
While rebounding has even more than 30 benefits, one of the main ones is that it stimulates the lymphatic system that helps to get rid of toxins. As the lymphatic system does not have a pump like the heart is for our blood, and only relies on moving our bodies, it can easily get sluggish when we do not move our bodies. When we jump up and down, this helps with opening and closing the lymph valves to moves these toxins out of the body at a faster rate.
The most important aspect is to ensure that you have a good quality rebounder as not using the correct one can lead to injuries on not achieving all the benefits that it can offer.

Frequently asked questions:
Do I need to be really fit in order jo join a class?
All levels are welcome, I will adjust the class or your movement as needed during the class. You start at your pace and always just make sure you do your best, rest where you need to and then continue.
What do I need to bring with?
Sweat towel, non-slip socks. Water bottle with lots of water and yourself
What should I wear?
Non-slip socks (please no tekkies as it causes an instable surface for your ankles and you can hurt yourself. If you have your own rebounder at home which only you or your family jump on, you can also jump barefeet but in class we wear non-slip socks due to cleanliness.
Wearing a high-quality, supportive sports bra is essential to protect breast tissue and prevent potential damage during physical activity.
Can I jump if I have an overactive bladder/ weak pelvic floor?
You definitely can, depending on how bad it is, you might have to run to the loo during the class but that’s perfectly normal. You can also even just start off with 10min jumps at a time to get you pelvic floor stronger and being able to hold in and then slowly increase to 20min etc over time.
Can small children jump?
Yes definitely. Rebounding is great for kids to help build their muscles, assist with balance, helps get rid of their energy levels, especially if they are sitting most of the day. They just need to be able to stand by themselves and be able to balance so they don’t fall of and hurt themselves.
Can older people jump?
As with kids you definitely can. You might just have to start off with small bounces and easier movements and build up from there. Rebounding is great for lymph drainage, balance, building muscle, works your mind and focus which are all really important in the elderly as we end up losing it as we age and have imbalances and then end up falling and injuries ourselves. If you have any chronic conditions or any injuries, just clear it with your healthcare professional first.
What can I expect in a class?
We always start with a warm up, then we do the class which is a mixture of cardio, strength and balance work. Then we always end off with a cool down and stretching session
What other equipment to we make use of in class?
We make use of various equipment eg lose weights, a mat, loop bands, long bands, pilates ball, cordless skipping ropes, ankle weights
Can I jump if I am pregnant?
Some ladies are able to jump for a while during their pregnancy if they have been rebounding before the pregnancy and they have a healthy pregnancy but its always important to first clear it with you healthcare provider before starting.k
